the party never stops!

more fasnachts you say? yes. its true. this is mondays, the final celebration {i attended}. it was basically the same thing as sundays {Wadenswil} parade. same "floats", whatever they call them here, but this monday's parade was especially for the kids {it was a lot shorter too}. this time i went with anna, mariah and roberta {oh and tyler but he slept in the stroller the whole time} it was fun with them! the girls dressed up a bit then we headed down the street for the action.

after the parade was over, we had our own confetti throwing. here anna is throwing a handful at me which gets in my chili {in the following picture}
one of the "floats" was handing out chili{?} and i ran up and snatched a bowl. it was delicious. this would never be allowed in the states, to hand out open food like that.
then we came back home for some good ol' fashion chalk drawing and playing outside because it was a glorious day.

i have always loved confetti

more fasnachts.
this is the fasnachts parade/celebration in my town, Wadenswil. {i LOVE Switzerland. what a neat place i live in. everyday i feel very lucky to be here.} i was able to get there early enough to get a great spot right in the front. also, i was able to find a spot with great lighting. the sun just poked its way through where i was. i didn't post all the photos for i took 478 pictures at this thing. its a beautiful thing. here are some of my favorites. {if you want to see more you can request it or go to my facebook and take a peak.}

i had a great time. it is fun to experience these things by myself, but at the same time i wish my family/friends were standing by me so we could laugh, be bewildered and get confetti thrown on us together.

these guys were great. they were called the Bittells. {beatles} they were just there before the parade started, walking around and singing beatles songs. they were pretty awful and they were even looking at a banner with the words. hah. it was great and everyone loved it. including me. i sang along right with them.
whips. i am pretty sure they almost whipped everyone they passed.









so many people posed for me. right after this disco queen posed for me, she bopped(a friendly bop) her blown up microphone on the top of my head. it made me happy.

there was tons of confetti being thrown.






these two sheep threw confetti at me FOUR times. hah. it was great.

clearly i look like a creeper, but there i am topped with confetti. why yes, i hardly wear any make up these days. why yes, that is a new scarf.

Luzern, i knew i loved you

yes, there are THAT many videos posted on here. but it had to be done.

so remember how in the previous post i said i missed out on the festival in Luzern?...well...on tuesday i randomly decided to head back into Luzern(almost didn't bring my nice camera...that would have been a catastrophe). when i walked off the train i saw people in costumes, then i walked a bit further, heard music and then saw the large gatherings of people around the lake. naturally, i was freaking out inside. you have no idea how i happy i was to find Fasnacht! so it turns out Fasnacht is not just a one day event, it is multiple, hence when i went back tuesday i found this(shown below). the costumes are like nothing i have ever seen before, and collectively they all blew my mind. costumes you would not find in the US and even ones you would see like, a pirate or pipeye or a chicken were so much more elaborate and had the essence of swiss. i took over 200 hundred pictures and did not want to post them all...well i wanted to but thought it would be best not to post all of them. i just posted a few, so if you want to see more of what i experienced go HERE i really did have an amazing experience with my fellow Suisse. i felt very lucky to see this part of their culture. i hope you take the time to look at the pictures and/or watch some of the videos.

Fasnacht, it is the German/Suisse version of Mardi Gras, except it is very very different. not only is the actual traditions and festivities different but the manner is different meaning it is a family oriented, safe and respectable celebration unlike the traditions of Mardi Gras(drinking, going crazy, topless women and so on). there were bands/parading, food, wacko costumes, confetti, skits and music.

tomorrow, sunday(and on monday) i will be going to the festivities here in Wadenswil. can't wait to see how my neighbors party!
